Though the Anapurna region is famous among the trekkers since decades, Mardi Himal Trek was opened much later. In fact, in 2012 the trail was opened for outsiders. Located in the east of Annapurna Base Camp trek, this trek is one of the most spectacular treks yet not know too many.

The seven days’ trek gives us plenty of time to delve into the local culture, relish the panoramic Himalayans, short hikes in nearby places and take pictures now and then. The landscape is elevated with sparkling alps stretching throughout the trail, dense forests and cooler evening. This trek will lead us to some of the most remote and seldom trod trails of Annapurna region. Walking on the rugged high Himalayan landscapes does not seem that painful when soaring mountains like Himchuli, Annapurna South, Machapuchre and Mardi Himal accompany us throughout our trek.

Mardi Himal Trek starts with a short scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. A place filled with natural wonders, Pokhara is a gem of Nepal. Here we can see spectacular Mt. Annapurna reflected in Phewa Lake, colorful local market and enjoy the calm environment.

Our trek begins with a short drive to Phedi then hike to Pothana Duerali. The trail passes through forest camp, Low camp, and high camp. The 3 – 4 hours hike from high camp lead to Mardi Himal Base Camp. Set on the foot of Machapucchre and Mardi Himal, Mardi Himal Base Camp offers captivating vistas of entire Annapurna Range. Soaking up the beauty of this heavenly place, we will head to Sidding then Lumle, marking the end of our trek.

How much the Mardi Himal trek cost?

The cost of the trek varies depending upon the size of group, season and package. We offer both luxury treks and budget trek at a different cost. What is the Mardi Himal trek itinerary?

It is an eleven-day tour comprising of seven days trek. We will kick off the adventure with a six hours comfortable drive to Pokhara in a tourist bus followed by a brief exploration of the beautiful city. Phedi, the starting point of the trek is nearly an hour drive from Pokhara. Tracing the trail of Pothana, Deurali, Forest Camp, Low Camp, and High Camp, we will reach Mardi Himal Base Camp, nestled at an altitude of 4500 m. This place is no less than heaven. With the sense of accomplishment, we descend to High Camp and spend our night here. We will follow the trail leading to Sidding then Lumla then rides a bus to Pokhara.

The trail is dotted with local lodges and tea houses. We will satiate our hunger and spend nights in the lodges offering the best service in the village. However, don’t expect too much., we will be trekking in the remote areas so you won’t find every facility here.

Trek route and durationdistance?

Unlike other treks, this is a very easy one. We will be walking a short distance on a relatively flat land. Only a few sections of the trek is challenging. The round trip is around 70 km (Pokhara to Pokhara). The trail passes through dense forests, diverse vegetation, rugged mountains terrain with sparkling mountains on the backdrop. We will spend nights in Deurali, Forest Camp, Low Camp, High Camp, and Sidding.

Day 1
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300 m):

Nepal trekking Path’s representative will wait for you outside the terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport with a name card. They will greet you then drive to your hotel. It’s a long flight so you can rest for a while or you may wander around the local market to buy gears you might need during the trek. Our guides will conduct a short briefing session of the trek. Have a delicious local meal and spend the night in a 3-star hotel.

Day 2
Day 02: Drive to Pokhara (800m) by tourist bus:

A six-hour drive won’t feel that long because of alternating sceneries in every step. Driving on the mid-hill alongside the raving Trishuli river will certainly give you chill. Short breaks in-between the drive give us enough time to savor the beauty of the rustic side of Nepal.

Land of ponds and lake, Pokhara’s tranquil atmosphere will leave you awe-inspiring. Nepal trekking will be incomplete without strolling on the passage of this beautiful city. So if time permits, we will head out to visit the wonders Pokhara has to offer. A delicious dinner and rest in a star hotel.

Day 3
Day 03: Drive to Phedi & Trek to Pothana Duerali (1810 m ) – 4 hours:

: We start our third day of the trek early as today we will have lots of hard work to do, starting with a drive to Phedi followed by a hike to Pothana Deurali. The trek starts with a gradual climb on the uphill. Walking on the ridge we will reach Dhampus valley dominated by Gurungs, Chhetris, and Brahmin. A brief walk on the dusty road and stone staircase will take us to Deurali. Dine on the beautiful valley surrounded by majestic Annapurna Himalayan Range.

Day 4
Day 04: Trek From Deurali to forest camp (2480 m ) -5 hours:

The six hours trek passes through spellbinding forests housing colorful trees of rhododendron, hemlock, daphnia, oak, birch etc. The 9.5 km trail features green valleys, cascading waterfall, and rugged terrain. The trail continues to wind through dense forests so it’s difficult to see any mountains on this route. Throughout the way, monkeys, deer, squirrels, pheasants, and birds will accompany us. There are no teahouses on the way so we will have to reach Forest Camp for lunch. Upon reaching Forest Camp, take a brief rest, have lunch then wander around the village set in the middle of the lush jungle.

Day 5
Day 05: Trek From Forest Camp to Low Camp (2970 m ) – 4 hours:

Post breakfast, we will start to walk on the same trail we followed the day before. The steep trail is dotted by orchids, lichen, mosses and other trees. As forest start to get thin, few tea houses will come into the sight. The view of towering Mardi Himal, Macchapucchere and Modi Khola Valley on the distance will make our trek interesting. By the lunch time, we will be in Low Camp.

Day 6
Day 06: Trek From Low Camp to High Camp (3550 m )-4 hours:

Short hike on a steep trail will lead us out of the jungle. Waking on the snowy ridge for the most of the time we will be in High Camp by lunchtime. It is a short yet thrilling hike. Explore the village after a brief rest and spend a night at a lodge.

Day 7
Day 07: Excursion to Mardi Himal Base Camp ( 4500 m ) – 4 hours:

Start our day earlier than before as we will be venturing into our hike before the dawn. Eat breakfast, pack lunch then ascend on the steep trail for a while. Mountains that look unreachable now appears closer. Machchapuchhre and South Annapurna look stunningly beautiful. The trail leveled out as we march further. The walking gets a little difficult due to the snow but it’s totally worthy. After relishing the beauty of this heavenly place, we will hike down to High Camp where we will be spending the night.

Day 8
Day 08: Trek From High Camp to Sidding (1700 m ) – 6 hours:

A delicious breakfast energize us for today’s trek. The trek starts with a hike on the downhill across the lush forest. Cross the verdant slopes decorated with terraced fields, mesmerizing rivers, and waterfalls. The continuous descend will take us to a small settlement, Sidding set on the bank of Mardi Khola. Enjoying the view, have lunch and stroll around the village. We will call it a day after a delicious dinner.

Day 9
Day 09: Trek From Sidding to Lumle -3 hours & Drive To Pokhara (800 m ) – 2 hours:

Today’s trek will be relatively easy and we will walk for just around three hours. Passing through some hamlets, grassy meadows, streams and green valley’s we will reach Lumle from where we will take a bus to Pokhara. Spend a night in Pokhara.

Day 10
Day 10: Drive to Kathmandu -6 hours and farewell dinner:

It’s time to bid goodbye to one of the most amazing cities in Nepal and head back to Kathmandu. Post breakfast, we will drive to Kathmandu. The road is dotted with several restaurants, we will stop for a tea and lunch break. After arriving Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. Spend the day taking the much-needed rest. In the evening, we will head out to Thamel for a farewell dinner.

Day 11
Day 11 : Departure:

It is the last day of your Nepal tour. Today you will fly back to your country, carrying and leaving beautiful memories. Our representatives will transfer you to the Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure. Hope you will fly back to Nepal for more adventure.

- Who leads the trek?

We hire competent local guides with years of experience in this field. They have better knowledge of every nook and corner of the Himalayas, fluent in English and can communicate in multiple other languages. They are trained in mountaineering, first aid and handling the adverse situation. They are supportive and take care of you in every step.

- What kind of food is served during the trek?

We offer open menu giving you the option to choose your meal. However please take note, we will be trekking in the high altitude so fulfilling your every demand is not possible. ABC makes sure that you get a hygienic, clean and nutritious meal. Generally, you will eat rice, noodles, cereals, pie, egg, cereals and bread.

- How safe is drinking water?

Since disposing of waste is a problem in remote areas, we discourage the use of plastic bottled water. Drinking water directly from the tap is not healthy either. So either use water purification tablet to purify the water or drink boiled water.

- What should be the fitness level to embark into this trek?

Being fit is most to accomplish the trek. However, people with average fitness can complete this adventure. Since the trek is not much strenuous, you can walk on a moderate and steady pace. However, if you want to enjoy every bit of the trek, it will be wise to start exercising before flying for the trip. You may start cycling, squash, jogging, swimming etc.

- How much weight should I carry during the trek?

You have to carry your belonging like clothes, sun block, sun/snow glasses, camera, and snacks. It won’t be more than 3kg to 5kg. Rest of your things will be carried by our porter.

- Can I hire trekking gears?

Yes, you can hire trekking gears. It is cheaper than buying. Nepal Trekking Path will help you with that.

- What is the weather like in Annapurna region?

Predicting the weather in the mountain region is not possible as it keeps on changing. Generally, days are warmer than night. The temperature drops as we hike up. Before throwing stuff in your backpack, ask your guides what weather to expect.

- Is hard-drink included?

Nepal Trekking Path does not offer any kind of beverage. Moreover, drinking alcohol during trek is not wise as it will dehydrate you. Being dehydrate in the high altitude means you will be prone to altitude sickness.

- How much should I tip?

Since tipping is not compulsory, you may tip your porter and guides according to your wish.

- How difficult is this trek?

It is a very easy trek. You will be walking on the relatively flat trail for most of the day. There are a few difficult trails but with a little bit of mental and physical strength, you will conquer the trail easily.

- Do you provide pick up and drop facilities?

Yes, we offer every kind of transportation facilities except international flight.
