The most awaited trekking in Everest region starts with a Scenic flight to Lukla. Joining the rest of the crew member, we start our Everest hike from Tenzing Hillary Airport to Phakding, following pine forest alongside Dush Koshi River. While heading to Namche Bazaar we will see the very first impressive view of Mt. Thamserku. A day has been spared for the acclimatization in Namche Bazaar. On this day, we will hike to Syangboche Airport for vistas of sparkling mountains and explore the village. Our next day destination is Tengboche, a small village popular for the largest monastery in the region. We will trek through Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorak Shep, Everest Base Camp, Zongla, Chola la Cross, Gokyo Ri, and Machhermo. We will walk through the Chola La after summiting the Everest Base Camp. We will trace the trail of Zongla, Thagna, Gokyo lakes, Machhermo, Namche Bazaar, and Luka while returning.

What is the Everest base camp trek itinerary?

The round trip is around 98 km. We will summit the Everest Base Camp on the 9th day of the trip and reach Chola La Cross in the 11th day. On the 13th day, we will visit Gokyo Lake and Gokyo Ri and end our trek in Lukla where it had started.

The trek starts after a short flight to Lukla followed by a short hike to Phakding. The trail passes through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorak Shep, Kalapatthar, Dzongla, Chola la Cross, Thanga, Gokyo Lake, Gokyo Ri, and Macchermo Dole .

You will stay in the local tea-houses or lodges and have three meal every day. Meals are cooked under the supervision of Nepal Trekking Path’s crew. So, you don’t have to worry about hygiene. Boiled water will be served throughout the trek.

The duration, route, and distance of Everest Chola Pass Trek?

It is a seventeen days tour but we will trek for only fourteen days (including two acclimatization day). The route passes through several villages including  Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorak Shep, Dzongla, Thanga, Gokyo and Macchermo. The trail is dotted with prayers flags, rhododendron, pine, and birch forests, traditional houses, and rocky cliffs. The round trip is nearly 98 km .

Day 1
Day 01: Arrival:

Today you will arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport and check in the 3-star hotel. If you arrive early, you may spend the day strolling around the local market. Our representative will hold a short briefing session about the trek. Have a meal and overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 2
Day 02: Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla - Trek to Phakding (5 hrs):

Catch an early morning flight to Lukla from Kathmandu airport This short flight renders startling vistas of soaring mountains, deep gorges, green valleys, and barren Himalayans. After around 30 minutes you will land in Tenzing-Hillary Airport and join our crew members. A short hike through the relatively plain trail alongside the captivating rivers will lead us to Phakding. We will have our lunch and stroll around the village. Eat dinner and rest at a hotel.

Day 3
Day 03: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (6 to 7 hrs):

Today’s walk will take us to the lovely village called Namche Bazaar. We will start our day early, eat breakfast then start to walk on well-marked trail dotted with the old huts, new houses, and prayers wheels. Just after walking few minutes, we will come across a suspension bridge, crossing it we continue to walk on the same trail for few more minutes. The initial hours of the trek are easy though we will climb a bit, walk on the graveled trail and some rocky steps. We will walk across the Rhododendron forest with the snow-capped mountains playing hide and seek on the distance. After reaching Monzo and getting the trek permit and TIMS in the Sagarmatha National Park, we stop in Jorsalle for lunch. We again cross the suspension bridge, this is the last one until we reach Namche Bazaar. From here it will take us two hours of the steep climb to reach there.

Namche Bazaar houses several lodges with modern amenities. The small town at an elevation of 3,440 m has several coffee shops, international restaurants, cyber cafe, and bars.

Day 4
Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar:

Enjoying one of the most beautiful mornings with the vistas of rising sun behind the mountains, we get ready for our today’s hike. Today we will be hiking to Syangboche Airport from where can have a glimpse of several majestic mountains piercing the sky. After spending an hour soaking into this captivating beauty, we head back to Namche Bazaar. After lunch, we will head out to explore the teeny-tiny yet a breathtaking town.

Day 5
Day 05: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (5 to 6 hrs):

We will start our hike on the narrow and unpaved trail. As we walk forward, the trail gets steeper and oxygen lessen so we need to walk steadily. We will walk through up and down hills, cross the long suspension bridges, visit stupas. We will stop in Phungi Thenga for lunch. From here it will take two and a half hour to reach Tengboche.

Tengboche offers mesmerizing views of multiple mountains. There is a gomba where we can see monks performing their daily rituals. Puja is performed every day at 5 pm and 6 am. We can witness it as per our convenience. We will witness the beautiful sight of the sun slipping behind the Mt. Everest and Lhotse in the evening.

Day 6
Day 06: Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (5 to 6 hrs):

It’s today trek that will make you feel like you are truly hiking up in the mountains because today we will hike on the rocky mountains. The hike starts with a gradual descent through the forested section, village and suspension bridges. Then walk on the steep road for a while. The altitude starts to show its effects as we hike up. Walking on the steep trail for a while will take us into the heart of Khumbu region i.e. Lower Pangboche village. From here, it will take us around three hours to reach Dingboche. We will start by walking alongside the hill leading to a small village Somare. Soon trees start to fade away and the trail dotes with small shrubs.

Dingboche is a small tranquil settlement surrounded by alps offers the stunning vistas. We might find phone signals here and internet cafe too. We will have dinner and take rest.

Day 7
Day 07: Acclimatization Day in Dingboche:

Dingboche, the second spot for acclimatization have few lodges with little facilities. Today either we hike in the nearby hills or stroll around the hamlet. We may hike up to a village called Chukung nearby the terminal of Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Nuptse glaciers or we may go up to Nangkartshang. The trail is steep but offers dramatic landscapes in every turn. More we hike upward more we see the amazing scenes from Rocky mountains to deserted, glacier valley and turquoise blue lake. After spending some time on the top of this majestic peak, we will head back to Dingboche. Have a good night sleep after a luscious meal.

Day 8
Day 8: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche (5 to 6 hours):

Today we will walk 8.4 Km. Waking up at 6 o’clock and having breakfast by 8, we start our today’s journey, walking on the meadow. After treading for a while, we will reach a small village named Dugla and within two hours we will be in Thukla, where we will stop for lunch. We will follow the steepest hill to Dugla Pass. Dugla Pass houses a memorial park in the memory of the people who died while climbing Mt. Everest. Passing glacial moraine and tree line, we will walk on the barren land with few icy lakes. On our way, we will see Kala Patthar on distance which we will be hiking in the coming days. Tracing rocky mountains we will finally arrive in Lobuche by afternoon. Spend the remaining time interacting with locals, enjoying ethnic meals and strolling around.

Day 9
Day 09: Trek from Lobuche to Gorak Shep - Everest Base Camp - Gorak Shep (7 to 8 hours ):

Today is one of the most important and longest days of this trek so we will start our day early. Post breakfast, we will start hiking uphill along the Khumbu Glacier. The trail is not too steep or difficult, however, we will feel the high altitude effects which will make our today’s trek more difficult. Treading steep hill, we will reach Gorak Shep, have lunch, keep our backpack then head to Everest Base Camp. After walking on the icy land for around two to three hours, we will be on the lap of soaring mountains. The place offers stunning views of Mt. Lho-la, Nuptse,mumori and Changtse. Soaking into this serene beauty for a while we will head back to Gorak Shep.

Gorak Shep is a small hamlet in the middle flat, sandy area. It has few lodges and abundant space to pitch tents. We will spend a night at a lodge after Nepali meal.

Day 10
Day 10: Hike from Gorak Shep to Kalapatthar to Dzongla (6 to 7 hours):

We will head to Kala Patthar in the dark so that we could reach there before the sunrise. We will see the sun rising over the sparkling alps. Lots of opportunities to snap pictures over here. From here trail leads to Dzongla, a small village at an altitude of 4710m. Spend a night here.

Day 11
Day 11: Trek From Dzongla to Thanga via the Chola-la Cross (7 to 8 hours):

Starting our day early, we will ascend on the steep hill and walk on the rugged trail until we reach Chola-la Cross. From Chola-la Cross we can have a decent view of Mt. Everest along with other alps. In the case of snowfall, we will have to use trekking gear likes ropes and other climbing equipment and this will make our trip more adventurous. We will then descend on the steep hill for a while, continue hiking small up and down hills and cross meadows to reach a small village Thanga. The village dominated by Sherpa people houses few lodges and tea houses.

Day 12
Day 12: Trek from Thanga to Gokyo Lakes (4 to 5 hours):

The trail passes through the ridge of a crossing Ngozumba glacier . Soaring Thamserku and Kangtega peaks on the distance accompany us most of the day. Treading through the rugged trail alongside the amazing landscape, we will see the first lake at Longpongo and the second one in Taboche Tso. Then we will make our way to shimmering blue lake alongside Gokyo valley. Enjoying the view and enjoying the traditional meal, we will sleep in a lodge.

Day 13
Day 13: Hiking from Gokyo Lakes to Gokyo Ri and trek to Macchermo (5 to 6 hours):

Gokyo Ri is around 4.3 km away from Gokyo Lake. It will take us one and a half hours to reach there. Gokyo Ri sits beside Ngozumpa Glacier, after spending sometime relishing the beauty, we will head dawn to Machhermo. The sparkling mountains above and the lush valley below looks mesmerizing and Ngozumba glacier adds a cherry on the cake. We will walk through glacial streams and descend the steep hill, we will reach the small Sherpa village, Machhermo. Stroll around the village, enjoy the sunset then having lunch we will call it a night.

Day 14
Day 14: Trek from Macchermo to Namche Bazaar (5 to 6 hrs):

Today’s walk is relatively easy. We will descend on the well-marked trail most of the day alongside the enchanting forests, meadows and small hamlets. Have lunch in Namche Bazaar and enjoy the view.

Day 15
Day 15: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (6 to 7 hours):

Today’s hike start by descending down the steep hill then crossing a long suspension bridge over a raging river. Passing through Jorsale and crossing a few more suspension river, we will reach a small settlement called Monzo. Spending some time and sipping team in the local tea house, we then resume our trek to Phakding. From here it will take us a few more hours to reach Lukla, however, it will be an easy walk. The trail is dotted with a number of the villages alongside Dudh Koshi river. Have our lunch in Lukla then stroll around the market, buy souvenirs and enjoy the place. Overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 16
Day 16: Flight to Kathmandu:

Board an early morning flight then transfer to hotel. You can get fresh.

Day 17
Day 17 : Kathmandu valley sightseeing .

We will start at Basantapur Durbar Square With its captivating architecture and wood carvings, it’s sure to spellbind the first time, visitors. The place homes several pagoda style temples, houses built centuries ago and the mesmerizing palace. A beautiful courtyard beside the Gaddi Baithak Palace is filled with small vendors selling handicrafts, from accessories to decorative pieces. The plaza is enhanced by several statues, food courts and a local market on the surrounding. We will offer prayers to the living goddess and take blessing from her. After strolling around the beautiful cultural heritage for some time, we will head to Swoyambhunath.

Swoyambhunath, one of the capital city’s most striking bequest of traditional architecture sitting above the Kathmandu valley offering a picturesque view of Kathmandu city. The major attraction of the place is gold plated Vajra, a statue of Buddha, Dewa Dharma Monastery, Sleeping Buddha and few temples. The place is surrounded by sparsely populated forest housing monkeys.

Pashupatinath, a jumble of beautifully designed temples and status sits on the heart of Kathmandu city. Constructed in the fifth century, the religious hub is spread on 264 hectors. As soon as we enter the place, we will see vendors selling ‘Puja ko thali’. Since the place is surrounded by forest, we will spot monkeys, deer and colorful birds. After a brief visit, we drive to Bouddhanath.

Relatively a small plaza, Bouddhanath hold great importance for Tibetan and Buddhist. The place is surrounded by restaurants, coffee shops, and handicraft shops. After spending some time, we drive you to your hotel.

Meet in the evening for a farewell dinner. Our guide will take you to the finest restaurant serving best Nepali cuisine. Overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 18
Day 18: Departure :

Can I summit Everest Chola Pass trek without any prior trekking experience?

We have seen teenager and old people embarking in this trek and successfully completing it. So, yes you can summit the peak without any prior trekking experience. You need physical and mental strength to summit the peak. Maintain good health and you are good to go.

I am a teenager, can I join the trek?

Yes, people of any age can embark into this trek but those below eighteen should bring their guardians along with them.

What kind of problems will I face if I travel solo?

Solo traveling in high altitude can be very dangerous as you may suffer from different health issues including AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). You might face difficulties while looking for accommodation and choosing the wrong trail is the whole another story. So, never travel solo in the mountains.

What about my security?

Your well being and security is our major concern. Our guides and other crew members will always take care of you and your belongings. However, it’s your responsibility too to take care of your belongings. Moreover, in the Himalayan regions, you won’t find goons or thieves. Yet you should be careful. Prevention is better than cure.

What is the ideal time for Everest region trek?

Apart from wet season, you can embark into this trek any time. June, July and August are the rainy season.

What kind of facilities will I get during the trek?

You can find lodges with basic amenities, electricity, and telephones. In some of the villages, there are internet cyber from where you can make an international call.

Can I bring my kids along with me?

Yes, but it’s not good for five-year-old kids to trek over the altitude of 3000m. So look for the hiking route in the lower altitude.

What kind of clothes should I wear during the trek?

Light cloths while trekking in the daytime and warm jackets and trousers in the night. It’s wise to carry warm clothes and a waterproof jacket while trekking as weather up in the Himalayans is unpredictable.

What to do if I fall sick?

For normal altitude sickness, our guide will provide you medicines. If case worsens, you will hike to the lower altitude and take rest. However, if you need more health assistance, we will arrange helicopter rescue.

How many hours/distance should I walk daily?

Generally, we will walk around 15 km each day and it will take us 4 to 8 hrs depending on the type of trail.

Do you sell Travel Insurance? Is it compulsory?

No, we don’t sell travel insurance. Yes, it is compulsory to have travel insurance if you want to join us. You will need travel insurance in case of an emergency.

How comfortable will be lodges and tea houses?

It carter basic service. Do not expect too much. In the peak season, it will difficult to find a single room, so you may have to share your room with other trekkers.

What kind of food will be served?

From ethnic food to traditional Nepali cuisine and international meal, every type of meal is served. Food is cooked under the supervision of our guides, so you don’t have to worry about hygiene. However, it’s not possible to find everything in the higher altitude, so we may not be able to fulfill your every demand.

Criteria of physical fitness to trek?

You should be in good health and should not have any problem in leg functioning. You must be mentally ready to trek for multiple days.

Should I take any kind of training?

No, you don’t need any technical or professional training to trek. You may start doing light exercises two to three months before venturing into this trek. Jogging, skipping and squat will help a lot.

Should I bring any trekking gear?

Can I hire trekking equipment?

Yes, you can hire them. Nepal Trekking Path will help you with that.

Is there any chances, I get lost on the way or guide will leave me behind?

No, it won’t happen. If anything like this happens Nepal Trekking Path takes the full responsibilities. However, it is next to impossible as we hire experienced and responsible guides and porters. They will always take care of you.

Should I carry my stuff myself?

You should carry a backpack with essential belongings like the waterproof jacket, lotion, sun/snow glasses. The rest of the things will be carried by the porters.

As a solo female trekker, is it safe to travel with your company?

We put your safety before everything. Be it man or female, we will always make sure you are safe and doing well. You can trust us with any type of trekking be if solo, group or family.

Whom to contact if I have any problem?

We will hire one guide for you throughout your stay. If you want anything, you can contact him. He will always be there for you.

Is water in mountains safe to drink?

No, running water is a big no. Never drink water directly from the tap. Either filter it using medicine or boil it. You should not worry about the water because we will provide boiled water for you. We don’t encourage using bottled water as it has an adverse effect on the environment. So bring one metal bottle and refill it whenever needed.

How cold is it up there?

The temperature drops as we hike up. So, it will be quite cold up there.

Can we customize the trek?

Yes, just tell us your requirements .

Is there any other option, if my flight to Lukla is delayed or canceled?

You may wait for an hour or a day and catch the next flight but if you are in hurry and don’t have spare time then we can charter a helicopter for you. You have to bear the additional cost.

Where should I keep my luggage?

You should carry only the necessary things for the trekking. You can keep your luggage in your hotel room locker or our office.
