The scenic trails in the Kanchenjunga region allow us to explore and discover the Himalayan from another perspective. Kanchenjunga Trekking leads us to diverse landscapes of verdant valleys, rugged Himalayan and deep gorge. The track meanders through panoramic villages giving us a glimpse of mixed culture with mesmerizing vistas of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse and, Mt. Makalu. View of frozen lake, Okathan the glacier will certainly elevate your experience.

The trail weaves through the trees and connects historic mountain villages, giving us the opportunity to spot wildlife including Red Panda, Snow Leopard, Musk Deer and explore ancient lifestyle. Throughout the trek, We will be accompanied by tweeting birds including Shy Dragon, Red – Billed Blue Magpie etc. Kanchenjunga Area Trek is a perfect mix of ancient culture,  adventure, and spiritualism.

Opened for outsiders in 1988, Kanchenjunga Trekking is challenging yet worthy. It is a long trek on the isolated trails providing us deep knowledge of lifestyle in the rural area of Nepal.  Don’t miss a chance to hear the anecdotes of Himalayan Yeti and other unbelievable stories of this area.

Nepal tour starts with a cultural tour in the capital city followed by a scenic flight to Bhadrapur. From Bhadrapur, we will drive to Illam then Sukhetar, our trailhead then follow the trail passing through diverse villages including Lali Kharka, Khesewa – Bhanjyang,  Ramche, and Tseram. The trek offers accommodation in the historic buildings with majestic views and fresh mountain air.

Day 1
Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu:

Our airport representative will meet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport then drive you to your hotel. After freshening up visit our office for a briefing about your Nepal trek. You will be introduced to your trekking guide there. We will discuss the required trekking gears and trek permits. If you arrive late, we will hold the meeting the next day. Overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 2
Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing:

Post breakfast, Nepal Trekking Path cultural guide will take you for the historical and cultural sites sightseeing in the capital city. Today, we will explore four major landmarks in Kathmandu; Bouddhanath Stupa, Basantapur Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, and Swayambhunath. We will start our Kathmandu tour by visiting Basantapur Durbar Square also called Hanuman Dhoka which is merely 10 minutes away from Thamel.

Basantapur Durbar Square: An ancient palace featuring awe-inspiring structures reflecting Newari art and craft, sits on the heart of the capital city, Kathmandu. Stroll around the historic temples, courtyards, alleys, big bells, magnificent palace, and ancient houses. We will explore the Kumari house and receive a blessing from the living goddess, Kumari.

Swayambhunath: A mindblowing plaza on the top of the hill, Swayambhunath was constructed in the fifth century. There is more than one entrance all of them leading to the top of the complex. The plaza is surrounded by colorful trees housing monkeys. The place houses large Buddha status, small artificial ponds, viewpoints, garden, and a large stupa.

Pashupatinath: Pashupatinath will give us a deep knowledge about the Hindu culture and beliefs. Here, we will see a number of temples, ashrams, status, inscriptions, and shrines. The temples constructed thousands of years ago reflects the history and architecture of Nepal. The main temple is of Lord Shiva.

Bouddhanath: Constructed during the Lichivi dynasty, Bouddhanath stupa is said to be the largest in the world. The majestic stupa is surrounded by several vendors and high-end restaurants. We will check out the temples, gumbas, and status while performing kora around the stupa. If you want to buy souvenirs you may do so. Have lunch before driving back to the hotel.

Day 3
Day 03: Fly to Bhadrapur 240 m and drive to Ilam 1,460 m – 04 hrs:

Post breakfast, our guides will pick you from your hotel and transfer you to the Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight to Bhadrapur. Upon reaching Bhadrapur, we will drive to Illam. A three hours drive on the serpentine road alongside the green valleys. The view is simply amazing. Illam is a large town popular for its mesmerizing landscapes and tea production. Check-in to the hotel, freshen up then head out to check Illam bazaar.

Day 4
Day 04: Drive From Illam to Sukhetar 04 hrs Trek to Lali Kharka 1,900 m – 04 hrs:

Enjoy the early morning breakfast then hop into the jeep heading to Sukhetar. It will take us around four hours to reach Sukhetar, our trailhead. We will take a brief rest then begin our first-day trek. We will begin by following the trail leading to the dense forest with colorful trees. A brief climb will take us to the ridge. We will continue walking to the high hills and follow the forested section of the trail. Descend until we reach Lali kharka offering unparallel vistas of Kanchenjunga on the backdrop.

Day 5
Day 05: Trek From Lali Kharka to Khesewa – Bhanjyang 2,100 m – 05 hrs:

Today we will be walking for around five hours starting by descending through beautiful farm villages decorated with terraced fields. The villages we will come across is dominated by Chettris, Brahmins, Rai, and Limbu. People residing in this area follows Hinduism.

Continuing on the same trail, we will come across Tembawa village from where we will descend to Phawa Khola. Cross the river then head to Pokora, a small village. Walk past the terraced fields, cross a bridge and follow a steep uphill to a village, Kunjari. The trail from here meanders through a forest then climb to Khesewa. From here, we will get a glimpse of Yalung Kang and Kanchenjunga peaks

Day 6
Day 06: Trek From Khesewa to Mamangkhe 2,030 m – 06 hrs:

Leaving this small farm village, we will tread downhill then follow the trail meandering through the forest leading to a village Lopoding. After a few ups and downs, we will reach a small settlement, Fun Fun. From the top of the hill, we will get an amazing view of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Khumbakarna Himalaya range. The route descends through terraced fields then climb uphill until we reach Pomppe Danda. Walk on the ridge enjoying the view of Mt. Jannu. Follow the trail leading to Khesewa Khola, cross the river then climb to Mamankhe.

Day 7
Day 07: Trek From Mamangkhe to Yangphudin 2,150 m – 06 hrs:

Start the trek by climbing uphill then walk on the leveled ridge to reach Dekadin village. Walk alongside the Kabeli Khola then climb towards mountain route. Tread through few ridges and stream and walk on the downhill to Kabeli Khola. Climb through few villages and farms to reach Yangphudin.

Day 8
Day 08: Trek From Yangphudin to Chitre 2,880 m – 06 hrs:

Follow Kabeli Khola then cross Omje Khola. Climb to Dhupi Bhangyang, marvel at the beauty of the place from the ridge then descend through a dense forest leading to Omje Khola. Walk past rhododendron forest, climb to the ridge then head to Chitre.

Day 9
Day 09: Trek From Chitre to Simbua Khola 3,000 m – 07 hrs:

Climb steep hill meandering through bamboo, rhododendron and magnolias forest leading to Ramitee. From here another steep climb begins. Tread through the uphill blanketed by colorful rhododendron until we reach Ramite Bhanjyand at an elevation of 3,430 meters. Continue the journey after a short break. Tread on the uphill covered with oaks, pines and rhododendron trees while being accompanied by Kabru peaks, Mt. Khumbhakarna and Mt. Kanchenjunga. A final descent will take us to our today’s destination Simbua Khola.

Day 10
Day 10: Trek From Simbua Khola to Tseram 3,770 m – 05 hrs:

Walk alongside the river bank, check out a bivouac caves then tread through the forested area. Tread to Wahta then cross a stream before entering the forested section. March on the graveled ground and forest leading to a riverbed. A final climb from here will take us to Tseram. From Tseram, we will get a glimpse of Talung peak, Kabru peak, and Yalung glacier.

Day 11
Day 11: Trek From Tseram to Ramche 4,360 m via Lapsang – 05 hrs:

Have a luscious breakfast while gazing at the glittering mountains. Start the trek by marching on the downhill trail leading to Simbua river. Walk on the riverbed before climbing the terraced uphill connecting Yalung Bara. The place houses a hut constructed with stone. From here the forested section end and our walk lead to Yalung Glacier zone. Ascend for around an hour then walk on the leveled trail passing through Yalungbar. Take a moment to enjoy the vistas of Kokthang, Rathong, and Kabru. In five hours, we will be in Ramche, our overnight stop.

Day 12
Day 12: Rest day at Ramche for Acclimatization and Optional Walk:

After walking for more than a week, we will take a much-deserved rest. The day is not only for rest but for the acclimatization purpose also. Thus, after a leisurely breakfast, we may hike to Kanchenjunga South Base Camp. The camp gives a clear view of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Yalung Glacier. Returning to Ramche, explore the surrounding place and take rest.

Day 13
Day 13: Trek From Ramche to Tseram – 04 hrs:

Post breakfast, return to Tseram. Tread downhill and follow the tree lines until we reach Tseram. It will take us four hours to reach Tseram. We will have plenty of time or other activities. Take a rest in a historic hotel.

Day 14
Day 14: Trek From Tseram to Tamo la 4,300 m – 05 hrs:

Walk down to Yalungbar then climb a bit. Follow the trail meandering through the forest after crossing a river. A short steep climb from here will take us to two glacial ponds. A strenuous walk on the fluctuating hill will take us to Miring La, Sinion La then Tamo La. We will get amazing views of Mt Kanchenjunga, Kabru Peak, Mt. Makalu, Chamlang Peaks, and Mt. Baruntse.

Day 15
Day 15: Trek From Tamo La to Ghunsa 3,480 m – 06 hrs:

It is an easy walk until we reach downhill. Follow the downhill passing through pine and rhododendron forest until we reach level ground. From Ghunsa River, head to Ghunsa village dominated by Bhotia. It is a small village with terraced farm and stone houses.

Day 16
Day 16: Trek From Ghunsa to Kangbachen 4,000 m – 05 hrs:

Tread on the steep uphill beside a river with vistas of beautiful waterfalls. Walk on the Yak pastures then follow the trail passing through the lush forest leading to Ghunsa River. From here, the trail meanders uphill to Rambuk Kharkas. Enjoy the vistas of Janu Himal, Khumbukarna Himal, and other soaring Alps then walk on the barren land. Upon reaching Rambuk Kharkas, we will ascend through a landslide area. A brief downhill walk will take us to Kangbachen.

Day 17
Day 17: Trek From Kangbachen to Lhonak 4,780 m – 05 hrs:

Walk for around an hour on the trail above the river. Follow the trail winding North East leading down to the river. Walk to Ramtang Kharka then to Kanchenjunga glacier. From here the walk leads to the Kanchenjunga and Lhonak glacier junction. A brief walk from here will take us to Lhonak. Take a glimpse at Mera, Wedge and Nepal Peaks, explore the surrounding and take a rest.

Day 18
Day 18: Trek From Lhonak to Pang Pema 5, 065 m – 05 hrs:

Today’s trail winds to the Mt. Kanchenjunga North Base Camp i.e Pang Pema. Start the trek with a strenuous climb with vistas of Givegela Chuli, Taple Sikhar, Nepal Peak and Kirat Chuli. Ascend for a while then tread on boulder route. From here, the trail passes through grassy and glacier slopes. In Pang Pema, we may get a glance of a few rare wildlife including Snow Leopards and mountain antelopes.

Day 19
Day 19: Rest day at Pang Pema for Local Exploration:

The 19th day of the tour is reserved for the rest. Today, we will explore the surrounding of Pang Pema. If you wish, you may go for short hikes. Walk past grassland, boulders, and moraine to get vistas of Nepal Peak, Drohma, Sharpu, Cholotse, Makalu, Kumbhakarna and Kanchenjunga.

Day 20
Day 20: Trek From Pang Pema to Kangbachen 3,900 m – 06 hrs:

After spending a beautiful night in this heavenly place, we will head back to Kangbachen. Follow the trail descending through glaciers and grassy moraines. After a few ups and downs, we will be in Kangbachen.

Day 21
Day 21: Trek From kangbachen to Phole 3,100 m – 06 hrs:

After spending a sound night in Kangbachen, we will follow the trail leading to Phole. The six hours trek starts with a long descent. We will climb a few hills and walk until we reach Ghunsa. Walk outside Gunsa village crossing Ghunsa Khola. We will cross a beautiful pine forest to reach Phole. It is a small Sherpa village housing ancient houses and tea houses. Since we will reach the village by the noon, we will have plenty of time to explore the local culture, tradition, food and have a conversation with the local people. Spend another beautiful night on the lap of nature.

Day 22
Day 22: Trek From Phole to Amjilassa 2,500 m – 07 hrs:

Follow the trail meandering downhill. Walk past the rich vegetation while enjoying the vistas of changing the landscape. The small bushes are soon replaced by tree lines. Pass through the colorful forest leading to a steep uphill. It will take us around half an hour to climb the hill then tread on the bank of Ghunsa Khola. Meander ups and downs for around an hour then descend on the steep slope for two hours to reach Amjilassa. The beautiful Sherpa village features some of the most beautiful sceneries. Enjoy a peaceful afternoon and take a rest in the hotel.

Day 23
Day 23: Trek From Amjilassa to Tapethok 1,300 m – 06 hrs:

Easy and pleasant walk until we reach a downhill. Descend through beautiful grassland leading to ancient villages Ghaiya Bari and Sekathum. Cross bridges over Ghunsa and Simbhu Khola then walk beside Tamur River leading to Tapethok. Kirat and Limbu dominate the village allowing us to witness the new culture, lifestyle, and customs. Wander around the village, snap pictures and enjoy the vistas of the small village before calling it a day.

Day 24
Day 24: Trek From Tapethok to Phoram 1,650 m – 06 hrs:

Enjoy the beautiful surrounding while having breakfast, then continue the trek on the back of Tamur River, walk until we reach Chiruwa village. Tread for few hours through small farm villages, terraced fields, and climb uphill blanketed by lush forest. Leaving the colorful forest behind, follow the easy trail connecting Phoram village. Stroll around this beautiful village, learn a new culture and savor ethnic food.

Day 25
Day 25: Trek From Phoram to Suketar 2,440 m – 05 hrs:

It is the last day of the trek. Follow the trail winding through small villages, streams, and meadows. Enjoy a thrilling walk into the lush forest in the mid-hill. Climb the steep hill for few hours and walk on the pleasant trail until reaching Suketar, a small village in Taplejung. Check-in to the hotel, freshen up and head out to check out the small town. The beautiful town in the middle of high hills has an airstrip.

Day 26
Day 26: Drive From Suketar to Fickal or Bhritamod /Bhadarpur:

After a memorable time on the lap of Himalayas, it’s time to return. After breakfast, hop into the jeep. The road passes alongside the beautiful tea farm, houses, streams, and forests. The road is rough until we reach Illam. From here, drive on a well-paved road for next few hours to reach Fickal. Fickal is a small town set on the border of Darjeeling. Drive on the serpentine road meandering downhill leading to Birtamod or Bhardrapur. We will take rest in one of the finest hotels.

Day 27
Day 27: Fly to Kathmandu from Bhadarpur:

If we stay in Birtamod, we will have to drive for around an hour to reach Bhadrapur to catch a flight to Kathmandu. It will take us around forty-five minutes to reach Tribhuvan International Airport. From the airport, ABC airport representative will transfer you to your hotel. You may spend the rest of the day, shopping or taking rest.

Day 28
Day 28: International Departure Homeward Bound:

Have breakfast, do the last minute shopping or relax at your hotel. Nepal Trekking Path’s airport representative will escort you to the Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward journey. We hope to serve you again.
