Manaslu Circuit Trek is a round trek in Manaslu region offering vistas of diverse landscapes virgin lands and remnants of history. It is a great way to explore the relatively ‘untouched’ region. The trek is demanding but we will be rewarded by captivating culture and peaceful environment.

The trail is sparsely populated though it has gained huge popularity among trekkers since 2010. So if you love the peaceful trek and does not want to be distracted by trekkers marching beside you, it can be an ideal trek for you.

Manaslu Circuit Trek offers vistas of some of the tallest mountain in Nepal including Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Ganesh Himal and Mt. Himalchuli. The trail boasts a Himalayan pass, suspension bridge, and breathtaking scenery. Witness cultural variation and rare herbals.

The route passes alongside Budhi Gandaki River until its headstream. As we start our trek, we will walk through lush meadows with majestic mountains in the distance. The landscape changes from a green valley to rugged mountains and glaciers as we move forward. The most challenging part of the trek is to cross Larkya Pass.

What is the trek itinerary?

The 18 days tour takes you into the untamed area of Manaslu region and cultural sites in Kathmandu. No activities have been planned for the day of your arrival, so check in to your hotel and have rest. Next day we will go for a cultural tour in Kathmandu and do the trek preparation in the remaining time. On the third day, we will head to our trekking point Soti Khola. The trek start day after with a short hike to Maccha Khola. From here the route winds through major historic village including Jagat Deng, Ghap, Lho, Samagaon, Samdo, Dharamsala / Larkya Phedi, Cross Larkya la, Bimthang, Gho, Dharapani, Jagat and ends in Besisahar. Larkya la is the major attraction of this place. From here we can have a mesmerizing view of frozen lake, sparkling mountains and icy valley.

On the day of your arrival, you will be transferred to a star hotel where you will be spending your night. During the trek, you will be staying in a simple but neat and clean lodge or tea house. The ethnic, Nepali and continental meal will be served throughout your stay in Nepal.

Trek duration, route, and distance?

18 days tour in Nepal will take you into the heart of majestic Himalayas. We have spared one day for Kathmandu sightseeing. The trek traces the trail of historic villages; Jagat, Deng, Ghap, Lho, Samagaon, Samdo, Dharamsala / Larkya Phedi, Cross Larkya la, Bimthang, Gho, Dharapani, Jagat and Besisahar.

Day 1
Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu:

Meet Nepal Trekking path representative at the Airport. They will collect your luggage then transfer you to your hotel to fresh up. Visit Nepal Trekking path office for the briefing of the trek. If we are left with time, you may wander around the local market to get a glimpse of Nepal. Spend a comfortable night at a 3-star hotel.

Day 2
Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour and Preparation Day:

Today’s day have been spared for the full day sightseeing in Kathmandu city. We will start by visiting Basantapur Durbar Square, an ancient royal palace. The temples reflecting the Newari architecture is probably the most stunning view to see. The square houses ancient temples, palaces, museum, and exotic statues. The palace has a courtyard where small vendors sell handicrafts, and souvenirs. 2015 earthquake hit this place hard, so construction work is going which is expected to take a few years. However, the place is safe to visit.

Swayambhunath: Believed to be one of the oldest monuments, Swayambhunath is a perfect epitome of Buddhist architecture. The beautiful stupa is divided into three major parts: base, dome, and spire. We can either take 365 staircases or drive from behind to get to the top. From the top, we can have amazing vistas of Kathmandu city

Pashupatinath: A holy temple on the bank of holy Bagmati holds great importance among the Hindus. The major temple is of Lord Shiva which is constructed in pagoda style with four beautifully carved silver doors. The plaza has multiple temples of a different god and goddess.

Bouddhanath: Barely half an hour drive from Pashupatinath, Boudhanath is a major tourist destination and holds great significance among the Tibetan and Buddhist in Nepal. It is believed to be constructed in the fourteenth century.

Day 3
Day 03: Drive to Soti Khola 730 meters Via Arughat Bazaar – 07 hrs:

We will be driving on the Kathmandu-Pokhara highway until we reach Dhading Bensi. The road is smooth and surrounded with captivating sceneries. A bumpy ride alongside dramatic landscapes, ethnic village, raging rivers and sparkling mountains on the backdrop four hours will take us to Arughat and Soti Khola. Fresh-up then strolls around the town.

Day 4
Day 04: Trek From Soti Khola to Machha Khola 930 m – 05 hrs:

The first day of trek starts with crossing a bridge then hiking through Sal forests. A steep trail will take us above the ridge and a brief walk from there lead to Khursane. From here the trail goes up and down alongside tropical waterfalls. After walking on a rugged terrain on the side of a cliff, we will descend down to the fields then climb the uphill leading to Labubesi, a Gurung settlement. A steep climb followed by a downhill walk to the river bank and a brief climb before crossing a suspension bridge leads us to Maccha Khola Village.

Day 5
Day 05: Trek From Maccha Khola to Jagat 1,410 m – 06 hrs:

At the beginning of the trek, we will walk on the narrow trail fluctuating up and down. Across Tharo Khola there is Khorlabesi. A few ups and downs from here will lead us to Tatopani. After a short ascend on the steep hill and crossing a suspension bridge, we will walk on the nicely paved staircase. Walking over the ridge, we will reach Dobhan. Cross the suspension bridge twice, walk on the stone staircase before reaching Tharo Bharyang. Ascend then walk alongside the Budhi Gandaki then head to Jagat.

Day 6
Day 06: Trek From Jagat to Deng 1,800 m – 06 hrs:

A short walk on the rocky ridge will take us to Salleri from where we will head to Sirdibas. The valley starts to look bigger as we approach Ghatta Khola. Continuing on the steep trail and crossing a bridge, we will reach a Gurung settlement named Philim. Walking to north on the leveled path encompassing millet fields, we will reach Ekle Bhatti. A steep gorge leads to a grassy slope and Budhi Gandaki. Walk on the bank of the river, cross bamboo forests and Deng Khola to reach Deng.

Day 7
Day 07: Trek From Deng to Ghap 2,160 m – 04 hrs:

A short walk from the village will take us across the Budi Gandaki Khola up to Rana village. Walking through the mani wall and forest we will reach Ghap. We will spend a night here to be prepared for another eventful day.

Day 8
Day 08: Trek From Ghap to Lho 3,180 m – 06 hrs:

Though there is another trail too, we will take the route that winds to pork village because the sceneries and vistas of Siringi Himal from this route offer are incomparable. A trail passing alongside and through the Budhi Gandaki river take us into the dense forest and narrow gorge. Walk on the leveled path then steep hill to reach Namrung. A small village offers splendid vistas of Himalayan peaks including Himal Chuli, Ganesh Himal and Siring. A steady climb to Lihi village then descends to the green valley to Sho village then Lho. In Lho, explore a popular Ribung Gompa and soak up the beauty of majestic Mt. Manasly.

Day 9
Day 09: Trek From Lho to Samagaon 3,530 m – 06 hrs:

Leaving the beautiful village behind, we will enter a colorful forest beside the river and walk on the steep hill leading to the plateau of Shyala. Walking on the same trail we will come across a bushy forest. As we head forward, we will see a beautiful Samagaon village in the distance.

Samagaon is a small village with multiple chortens, gumbas, and a monastery. People residing here follows Buddhism and wear distinct custom. Their lifestyle, culture,, and custom are very fascinating.

Day 10
Day 10: Rest day in Samagaon for acclimatization:

Splurge in delicious breakfast, then take some rest. There are multiple short hike options. If you want to explore the mountains, you may hike to Manaslu Base Camp and if you want to peek into the local culture, hike to Pungyen Gompa. Spend the day dwelling around the spellbinding village, taste the ethnic food or watch a movie in the only theater in the village.

Day 11
Day 11: Trek From Samagaon to Samdo 3,860 m – 05 hrs:

: After a luscious breakfast, we bid good-bye to this captivating settlement and descend until the bank of Budhi Gandaki River. Crossing a bridge, we will walk on the rugged trail dotted with numerous mani walls with the view of snowy mountains. Follow the easy trail passing through birch and juniper forest then descend to Budhi Gandaki. Cross the river one more time and follow the steep hill then hike on stone archway until we reach Samdo.

Day 12
Day 12: Trek From Samdo to Dharamsala / Larkya Phedi 4,460m – 04 hrs:

A delicious breakfast followed by a hike across a small Tibetan market. Walk down and cross Budi Gandaki river, then follow the uphill trail. The captivating view of streams and Larkya Glacier will keep our spirit high. Trace the route of Salka Khola valley then climb to Dharmasala or Larke Phedi. Since we will reach Larke Phedi withing few hours, we will be left with abundant time to explore the place.

Day 13
Day 13: Trek From Dharamsala to Cross Larkya la 5,200 m / 17,060 ft and to Bimthang 3,720 m – 08 hrs:

It’s going to a long day so eat a proper breakfast. A hectic trek will be softened by the vistas of colorful rustic villages, shimmering lakes, and rare flora and fauna. A few hour climbs will take us to Larkya Glacier. From the north of glacier, we will get an amazing view of Larkya Peak and Cho Danda. The trail gets more difficult as we climb across moraines and the last part of the pass is even more challenging but worth it as it offers a view of Annapurna II, Cheo Himal and Himlung Himal. We will continue walking on the low pasture with Mount Manaslu on the backdrop.

Day 14
Day 14: Trek From Bimthang to Gho 2,560 m – 05 hrs:

Today we will be walking for only around five hours. Kick off the trek with a gradual descent on the ridge, walk on the high pasture then cross the Dudh Khola. From here, enter a colorful forest of rhododendron and follow a narrow valley. Upon reaching Karche, we will see beautiful fields and pastures. Take a few moments to soak up the beauty then head up to the ridge and descend to the river bank. A short walk from here will lead us to Gho.

Day 15
Day 15: Trek From Gho to Dharapani 1,860 m – 05 hrs:

Leaving Gho behind, we will walk through a bridge over a raging river and hike alongside the bank. We will walk down through lush forest to reach Thonje. Continuing on the same trail and walking through the police checkpoint we will finally reach Dharapani.

Day 16
Day 16: Trek From Dharapani to Jagat 1,290 m – 05 hrs:

A short hike from Dharapani will take us to Tal. Descending on the rugged trail dotted with trees and beautiful waterfalls we will reach a small village called Chamche. Beautiful forest, wooden bridge and cascading waterfalls, the trek to Jagat will be simply mesmerizing.

Day 17
Day 17: Drive to Kathmandu through Beshisahar 830 m – 07 hrs and Farewell Dinner:

Today is the last day of our trek. Leaving this beautiful village behind, we will drive to Kathmandu. 7 to 8 hours drive will take us to Kathmandu. A farewell dinner will be held in the Evening. You will be served with typical Nepali cuisine.

Day 18
Day 18: International Departure Homeward Bound:

It’s time to bid goodbye to the Himalayan country. Spend your last day enjoying the beauty of the city. Our representative will pick you from your hotel then drop you to Tribhuvan International Airport for the flight to your homeland. Hope you enjoy the trip.

- Will I be able to navigate the trails at a higher altitude?

Hiking on the higher altitudes is not easy because of the lack of oxygen. Hikers might suffer from altitude sickness. So to make sure, this won’t be the case with our trekkers, we have spared an acclimatization day in Samagaon. The basic mantra of acclamation is hiking higher sleeping lower. So, on the day of acclimatization, we will hike to a higher altitude and walk back to Samagaon to spend a night.

- How much my backpack weigh?

While trekking in the higher altitude, you should be very careful about not overstuffing your bag with unnecessary things. So our guide checks and tell you what to carry so that your backpack won’t weigh more than five-kilo grams.

- How comfortable will the accommodation be?

While in Kathmandu, you will stay in a star hotel and during trek you will spend nights in simple and clean rooms.

- What kind of exercise should I practice to prepare for the trek?

There is no need to take special training for this trek as it is nontechnical and does not require to use any trekking gears. You should be in good health and capable to walk around fifteen kilometers every day. Yet, if you want to train, you may jog, swim, squat etc.

- Will you provide us with guides? Are they experienced?

Yes, we provide you with a local guide with years of experience. They know the Himalayan like the back of their Pam thus they know which tea house serves the best food and provide the most comfortable accommodation, from which side you will get the perfect view and which section of the trek is most picturesque. They will help you with any other issues including health. They have received training in first aid, guiding and handling an adverse situation.

- What are the booking procedures?

- What kind of travel insurance should I buy?

Travel insurance is compulsory and it should cover all most all the aspect of the tour. However, you might not need helicopter rescue. Nepal Trekking Path does not sell travel insurance so buy it in your homeland.

- What if I want to spend more days then the estimated the itinerary?

- What’s the difficulty level of trek?

The trek posses both easy and difficult trails. It won’t be hard for you to accomplish this trek if you are mentally prepared and love adventure .

- What is the age limit?

There is no age limit. Anyone can embark into the trek if they are physically fit. But if you are not 18 yet, you need to bring your parents or guardian along with you.

- How to deal with altitude sickness?

Altitude sickness is very common in Himalayan. So carry medicines and acclimatize properly. Our guides will help you if you suffer from any kind of sickness

- How’s the weather up there?

It’s very difficult to predict the weather in the Himalayan. It might be very hot one day and the next day the temperature might drop drastically. So you should carry both warm and light clothes.

- What if I get lost in the trail?

No, that won’t happen. We hire responsible and experienced guides and porters who will take care of you in every step. They will motivate you, entertain you and be there for you if anything happens. If something like that happened, we will take full responsibility.

- How crowded trail will be?

It is the relatively less crowded area. We will meet very few trekkers along the way.
