Overview

Langtang Valley Trek provides us with an opportunity to explore rustic Nepal without traveling far from the capital city i.e. Kathmandu. Popular among trekker as the valley of glacier trek, the trek offers a wide range of adventures from hiking on the off-beaten-trail to climbing steep hills and snowy trails with a bewitching view of lofty snow-capped Alps and sparkling glaciers.

The valley amid the Mount Langtang Lirung (7,246 m /2,3766 ft) features natural wonders including lush forest, rugged terrain, grassy meadows, gorgeous mountain stream, wildflowers, wild animals and colorful birds. The valley does not just enchant you by the natural wonder it has but also blow your mind with the opportunity to delve into the vibrant culture of the place. The trail is rich in history and dotted with Buddhist monasteries, prayer flags, mani walls, and a cheese factory.

The Langtang trek passes through both well-defined trail and off-the-beaten-path passing through hypnotizingly remote and sparsely populated areas giving us the opportunity to enjoy both types of the walk.

In 1971, the area became the first Himalayan national park of Nepal. Natural heritage, forests landscapes, and wildlife are treasured and reserved as it was before. Explore wild boar, Himalayan black bears, red pandas, and rare faunas and immerse into the beauty of Naya Kanga, Yala Peak, Langshisha Ri, Mount Ganesh Himal, Gangchenpo, Langtang Lirung, Mt Gaurishanker, and Dorje Lakpa during Langtang area trekking.

The ten days trip start with a rest day in Kathmandu followed by a drive to SyabruBesi. The trek starts on the 3rd day of the trip with a short hike to Lama Hotel passing through the enchanting forest. Langtang village is another gem hidden in this valley. Ancient chortens, gombas, mani walls, and prayers flags make the village more captivating. Kyanjin Ri and Chorka Ri or Tsergo Ri are some wonders the place holds.

How much the Langtang Valley Trek cost?

The standard cost is USD… under this price, we offer services like pick up and drop to the international airport, accommodation in 3-star hotel with breakfast in Kathmandu, accommodation with three meals per day during the trek, government tax, domestic flights, all the surface transportation, trek permit etc. There are a few things that is not covered by the standard rate. What is the trek itinerary?

On the day of your arrival, you will spend your time resting and preparing for the trek or you may go for gear shopping. We will head to our trailhead, Syabru Besi after an early morning breakfast in Kathmandu. It is around seven hours of drive to Syabru Besi. Our trek starts next day with a hike to Lama Hotel. We will explore the nearby places, enjoy the view and take rest after dinner. Next day navigate the trail to Langtang village, a village that was completely destroyed by the 2015 earthquake. Our next destination is Kyanjin Gompa. From here we will go to the nearby hill stations for a panoramic view of this valley.

Throughout your trek, you will be served with Nepali cuisines, ethnic meals and International dishes (in a few places). The hotel rooms during trek are simple catering the minimum services. However, in Kathmandu, you will spend your nights in the star hotels.

Trek route and durationdistance?

Syabru Besi is 49.6 km away from Kathmandu and the distance can be covered in around 7 hours drive. The trek that starts from Syabru Besi passes through few major villages including Lama Hotel, Langtang village, and Kyanjin Gompa. The typical walking days is 6 however the overall trip can be concluded in 10 days. Every day you will be walking for around 4 to 6 hours only.

Day 1
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu Airport (1,345 meters):

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be welcomed by our airport representative then transfer to your hotel by private car vehicle or tourist bus. A brief discussion about the trek will be held. You may ask the questions if you have any confusion. This session is important to build a rapport between you and your guides. If time permits, you may go for last minute shopping and stroll around the market. Get a glimpse of local culture. Overnight stay at a cozy 3-star hotel.

Day 2
Day 2: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,462m/4795ft) (6:30 hours):

An early morning starts takes us to a long drive to Syabru Besi. However, you won’t find the ride long as you will be enjoying the amazing sceneries throughout the way. The seven hours drive takes us through serpentine road carved in the mid-hill, Trishuli Valley and mountains. The trail is dotted with several restaurants, we will stop in one of them for lunch. By 3 pm, we will be in Syabrubesi. Spend the remaining day exploring the place and doing the last minute preparation.

Day 3
Day 3: Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,510m / 8232ft):

Have a delicious breakfast before buckling up for the most awaited trek. The first day of the trek starts with a climb on a steep trail for around three hours passing through colorful forest linking Bamboo village. Our lunch spot, Bamboo is set in the midst of the lush forest. Continue walking on the same path piercing the dense forest accompanied by the tweeting birds and pheasant, we will finally reach our today’s ultimate destination, Lama Hotel.

Day 4
Day 4: Trek From Lama Hotel to Langtang village (3,307 m/ 10846 ft):

An early morning breakfast will fuel us with the most-needed energy to accomplish our today’s trek. A pleasant walk for nearly three hours on the relatively easy trail entering the pine and rhododendron forest will lead us to Ghoda Tabela. We will stop here for a brief rest and lunch. The trek eventually gets difficult with more steep hills. However, chortens, mani walls, vegetation, and colorful birds make our hike easy and interesting. Within three hours we’ll be in Langtang Valley.

2015 earthquake hit Langtang valley hard. Many people including few tourists lost their lives and village almost collapsed. However, it has been declared safe and the route has been opened again. Renovation work is going on and several new buildings are being constructed. New lodges and tea houses are being constructed with better amenities which make it an ideal spot for us to spend a night.

Day 5
Day 5: Trek From Langtang village to Kyanjin Ri (4,773m/ 14526ft) and back to Kyanjin Gompa:

We will kick off our trek after a delicious Himalaya breakfast. The trail winds through small settlements, green meadows, and streams with the view of sky-piercing mountains on the backdrop. An uphill and downhill hike for around four hours tests our mental and physical strength. Upon reaching Kyanjin Gompa, we will take a brief rest, have lunch and set out to explore the Kyanjin Ri. We will walk all the way up to Kyanjin Ri set at an elevation of 4,773 m. The view of mountains this place offers is legendary. Relish the beauty, take pictures and relax before heading back to Kyanjin Gompa for an overnight stay.

Day 6
Day 6: Trek From Kyanjin Gompa to Chorka Ri or Tsergo Ri (5,050 m/ 16564 ft) and back to Kyanjin Gompa:

Today we will take a much-needed break. The major purpose of this break is to explore the Kyanjin Gompa and embark into a short hike to Chorka Ri or Tsergo Ri. After an early morning breakfast, we will hike to the Chorka Ri or Tsergo Ri from where we can have a decent view of soaring alps. We head back to Kyanjin Gompa for lunch and overnight stay.

Day 7
Day 7: Trek down from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel(2,510m/8232ft):

Tracing our steps back, we will walk to Lama Hotel. Nearly four hours walk from Kyanjin Gompa will take us to Lama Hotel. We will have our lunch and spend the remaining day strolling around the place. A delicious local diner followed by rest.

Day 8
Day 8: Trek From Lama Hotel to Syabru Besi:

Today is the last day of our trek. We will wake up early in the morning, have breakfast and gear up for our last hike of this trip. A gentle descent on the sloped hill for a while then hike on the leveled land to reach Syabru Besi. It won’t be a long hike so we will be left with enough time to hang around the village. Overnight stay at a cozy hotel.

Day 9
Day 9: Drive back to Kathmandu and Farewell Dinner:

After an early morning mouthwatering breakfast, you will hop on the tourist bus or private bus for your journey to Kathmandu. Seven hours drive in the serpentine road alongside small hamlets, towns, forest, and rivers will be one of the most mesmerizing rides of your life. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. Take rest, freshen up then we will meet again in the evening for the farewell dinner. Our guides will take you in one of the finest restaurant serving the most delicious Nepali cuisine. Overnight stay at a 3-star hotel.

Day 10
Day 10: International Departure Homeward Bound:

With lots of memories and experiences, today you will leave for your homeland. Eat breakfast, do some last minutes souvenir shopping and pack your belongings. Our representative will transfer you to TIA before your flight. Have a safe flight. Thank you.

- How challenging is this trek?

This is a comparatively easy trek. The trek starts off with an easy walk. Upon reaching Langtang village at an altitude of 3,307 m, we will climb Kyanjin Ri at an elevation of 4,773 m and Chorka Ri or Tsergo Ri at a height of 5,050 m which can be little tricky. Anyone in a good health can easily accomplish this trek.

- What should be my fitness level?

If you are in a good health, you can embark into this trek.

- Should I train before heading for the trip?

If you are in good health and does not have any issues related to leg then you are good to go. But if you want to enjoy every bit of the trek without being tired or body ache, then it would be wise to do a few exercises two to three months before the trip. You can practice jogging, squat and swimming.

- How heavy will my backpack be?

Since you will be carrying only the necessary items like windproof jackets, sunscreen cream, sunglasses, water bottle etc, it’s won’t be much heavy. Moreover, it might weigh around four to five kilogram only.

- What kind of accommodation can we expect?

The region was hit hard by 2015 earthquake. So renovation work is going on and the new buildings are being constructed in the major villages. So, you can expect to spend the night in a relatively cozy hotel-rooms with amenities like electricity, charging points, hot shower (pay extra dollars for it) and comfortable bedding.

- What about food hygiene?

We never compromise with your health. Our guides know what kind of food you prefer and how to cook it maintaining a high standard of hygiene. Our guides provide guidelines to the tea houses so that they serve tasty, healthy and hygienic food.

- What weather to expect in Langtang region?

The weather in Langtang region is uncertain because of high altitude, the weather may change frequently. In one moment it can be sunny and in the next, it may start to rain. So be prepared to face every kind of weather before embarking into Langtang trek. Consult your guide about the weather and what to throw in your bag.

- Is there any chance that I will suffer from altitude sickness?

No matter how fit and young you are, you may get the altitude sickness in the high altitude. So always be careful and practice all the prevention method as well as learn the cure before heading to trek. Though it is a minor illness but can be fatal if ignored. Take medicines with you and inform your guide if you feel uneasy or difficult to breath. In case, you get altitude sickness, hike to the lower altitude and take rest.

- Are your guides well experienced?

Yes, we hire local guides with deep knowledge on the Himalayas. They have been working in this fields for years. They are fluent in English and can speak multiple languages. They are trained in first aid, guiding and handling the unforeseen situation.

- How many hours I will walk per day?

You will have to walk around 4 to 6 hours every day.
