Chisapani-Nagarkot Hike is the best hike for those who want to see rustic Nepal but does not want to travel to remote areas. The 6 days tour is a combination of historical tour, cultural tour and a short hike in the areas just a few kilometers away from the major city. Witness the typical village life, captivating Himalayas, charming sunset and sunrise, countryside and soaring mountains within the three-day trek. We will get enough time to have a chit-chat with locals, enjoy their culture and splurge in typical Nepali meal. Our hard work will be awarded by the view of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Everest, and Dhaulagiri. Commonly called Nagarkot trek or Kathmandu Valley trek, the hike takes us away from the busy city letting us enjoy real nature.

The hike starts on the third day of the tour with a short drive to Sundarijal, the trailhead. We start by walking on the trail passing through the beautiful forest leading to Chisapani. Chisapani is a small village dominated by Sherpas, Gurungs and Brahmins and a perfect spot to view the sunset. Few hours walk to Nagarkot will take us through ancient villages, beautiful streams, lush forest, and rugged terrain. The place is perfect to witness the sunrise. We will end our hike with a short walk to Changunarayan, a holy temple.

What is the hike cost?

What is the trek itinerary?

The six days tour will take us into the beautiful villages, green valleys, and forests. We have not planned any activities on the day of arrival, so check-in to the hotel, take rest or stroll around the local market, it’s your choice. The next day, we will head for the cultural tour around the Kathmandu City. On the third day of the tour, we will drive to our trailhead, Sundarijal. From Sundarijal we will hike to Chisapani then to Nagarkot and Changunarayan.

Throughout your trek, you will be staying in a cozy hotel serving Nepali, local and continental cuisine.

Trek duration, route, and distance?

In the six days tour, we will be hiking for three days.  The route winds through Chisapani, Nagarkot, and Changunarayan. It is a short, easy hike that let us delve into nature and learn the local culture.

Day 1
Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu Airport and transfer to Hotel:

Our airport escort will be waiting for you outside the terminal with the name card. They will collect your luggage then transfer you to the hotel. Freshen up then visit our office for a briefing. You may spend the rest of the time, strolling around the colorful local market. Overnight stay at a cozy hotel.

Day 2
Day 2: Kathmandu City Tour:

Today we will embark to guided city tour. We will start with the cultural tour to Basantapur Durbar Square. The place is a living proof of Nepal’s history and culture. Beautiful Newari architecture, sculpture, exotic wood carving, historic temple and ancient house are some of the major attraction. There are several vendors selling handicrafts and souvenirs on the courtyard of the palace.

Around 25 minutes of the drive will take us to Swayambhunath. We can either take staircase climbing uphill or drive to another entrance to get on the top of the plaza without much fuss. From here we can have an aerial view of the capital city. Witness monk practicing their daily rituals and chanting prayers. You have to be extra conscious here because monkeys show special interest on your belongings. After exploring the complex for a while, we will head to Pashupatinath.

Pashupatinath, the holiest Hindu temple is another major attraction of Kathmandu. The main temple is of Lord Shiva. The pagoda style temple has four silver doors with the nicely carved exterior. The temple is set on the bank of holy river Bagmati. There are more than four hundred temples inside and outside of the courtyard. The plaza is surrounded with sparsely populated forest.

30 minutes drive from Pashupati on the well-paved road through the busy city will take us to Bouddha. Another major tourist attraction in Nepal. Boudhanath houses the world’s biggest stupa shrines, temples and prayers wheel. Wander around the plaza, have a delicious lunch before returning back to the hotel.

Day 3
Day 3: Drive to Sundarijal and hike to Chisapani:

An early morning breakfast fuel us for today’s hike. We will hop into the jeep or tourist vehicle. The road winds through some of the busiest cities in Kathmandu. Drive beside the Pashupatinath temple and Boudhanath. Nearly 45 minutes drive from Bouddhanath through small town and villages will take us to Sundarijal. Upon reaching Sundarijal, we will start our hike to Chisapani. It will take us around five hours to reach Chisapani from Sundarijal. First two hours is a steep climb. On the way, we will have to stop to buy a ticket to enter the Shivapuri National Park. After hiking for one more hour in the mild uphill, we will descend then walk for a while before reaching Chisapani. Chisapani is a sparsely populated village with few lodges and resorts.

Day 4
Day 4: Hike From Chisapani to Nagarkot:

Post breakfast, we will begin our trek descending on the mild hill. The trail passes through small villages and forest with a great view of shining mountains on the backdrop. After walking for around three hours, we will reach Chauki Bhanjag. Hike on the trail alongside green valley for another few hours to reach Nagarkot.

Nagarkot, a beautiful hill station is a perfect getaway from the hectic city life. Popular for the vistas of sunset and sunrise and if we reach on time, we will get the opportunity to see both, sunset and sunrise. The place offers a panoramic view of several mountains including Mt. Everest, Dorje Lhakpa, Gauri Shankar and Manaslu.

Day 5
Day 5: Hike From Nagarkot to changunarayan temple and drive to Kathmandu and evening time farewell dinner:

The day starts with a downhill hike to the small villages with terraced fields. The house in these areas is constructed with stone by local craftsmen using local materials. The sight of people working in the field, cows grazing on the meadows is common. If you want we can see the local winemaking process as well. Passing through this beautiful villages, we start to walk on the scenic trail alongside the beautiful forest. Within five hours, we will reach Changunarayan.

Set on the hillock, the main temple is built in pagoda style. Listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site, the plaza houses stone sculptures, shrine, historical pillar, and temples. After touring the place we will drive back to Kathmandu. Check-in to the hotel, freshen up then head out for dinner. Our guides know the best restaurant that serves delicious Nepali cuisine.

Day 6
Day 6: Final departure:

Have breakfast, go for souvenir shopping in the nearby market. Our airport representative will pick you from your hotel and drive you to the airport for your departure. Have a safe flight.

The difficulty level of trek?

The Chisapani-Nagarkot Hiking is easy to trek and only take three days (typical walking days) to complete. In a few sections of this trek there is a steep hill which can be little strenuous but other than that it’s an easy walk.

What trekking gear will I need to embark into this trek?

For this trek, you won’t need any type of specific clothes. Carry clothes according to weather. You need to carry sunscreen, sunglasses and water bottle in your backpack.

What to expect from our tour guide?

Our guides are experienced fun and safe. They are trained in handling minor health issues, minor issues in vehicle and guiding. Trip with them will be exciting and worthy.

Do you have an age bar?

No, anyone in a good health can embark into this trek. Those below 18 years should be accompanied by their guardians.

Will we be hiking on the off-the-beaten road or paved road?

The trek is a mixture of both. In some section of the trek, there is a paved road and in some section off-the-beaten trails.

Is tipping compulsory?

No, it is not compulsory but somehow expected. Tip your guides to help them financially. You can tip as much as you want.

What kind of food will you serve?

We serve clean hygienic and safe food. Since the trek takes us around the tourist area with good hotels and restaurants, you can splurge into any kind of food, Nepali, local or continental.
